Stockholm — Sweden will implement new labour migration rules on 1 June 2026, introducing key changes to work permits aimed at improving flexibility and attracting international talent.

A central reform is the extension of the EU Blue Card validity period. Highly skilled non-EU workers will be eligible for permits of up to four years, providing greater stability and reducing the need for frequent renewals.

Seasonal work permits will also be expanded, allowing foreign workers to stay and work in Sweden for up to nine months within a year. The change is expected to benefit industries such as agriculture, forestry, and tourism that depend on temporary labor.

The government says the reforms are designed to better align migration policies with labor market needs while making Sweden more competitive in attracting skilled professionals.

The new rules are part of a broader effort to modernize the migration system, with further details on implementation and eligibility expected ahead of the June 2026 rollout.
