Henley Passport Index October 2026: Where Do You Stand?
10/10/2026

The Henley Passport Index October 2026 ranks the world’s passports based on the number of destinations their holders can visit without obtaining a visa in advance. The latest ranking covers 199 passports and 227 travel destinations, using data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and additional research by Henley & Partners. It helps travelers understand how passport strength affects international travel and visa requirements.
Singapore holds the world’s most powerful passport, offering access to 193 destinations without a visa in advance. Japan, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) share second place, with access to 188 destinations each. Sweden ranks third with 187 destinations, while several European countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands, share fourth place with 186 destinations. Other strong passports include those of Austria, Greece, Malta, Portugal and Switzerland, which share fifth place with access to 185 destinations.
The top 10 positions also include Hungary, Malaysia, Poland and the United Kingdom in sixth place, with access to 184 destinations. Australia, Canada, Czechia, Latvia, New Zealand, Slovakia and Slovenia share seventh place with 183 destinations. Croatia and Estonia rank eighth, followed by Liechtenstein and Lithuania in ninth place. Iceland and the United States complete the top 10, with access to 180 destinations. These rankings highlight the strong travel access available to many European and Asia-Pacific passport holders, as well as the UAE’s leading position in the Gulf region.
At the other end of the ranking, Afghanistan has the world’s weakest passport, with access to only 22 destinations without a visa in advance. Syria ranks among the lowest, with access to 25 destinations, followed by Iraq with 28 and Pakistan with 29. Yemen also remains near the bottom of the list. These results show the major difference in international travel access between the strongest and weakest passports. For many travelers, limited visa-free access means more paperwork, additional expenses, and longer preparation times before an international trip.
For travelers, the Henley Passport Index is a useful starting point when planning holidays, business trips and visits to family abroad. However, a high passport ranking does not mean that every destination is visa-free, and visa rules can change. Travelers should always check the latest entry requirements with the destination country’s embassy or official immigration website before booking flights and accommodation. Knowing your passport’s travel access can help you plan ahead, prepare the correct documents, and avoid unexpected visa problems.
