Asia Pacific tourism is getting closer to full recovery in 2026, offering encouraging news for travelers planning their next holiday. According to the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), international visitor arrivals across 44 destinations reached 239 million in the early months of 2026. This represents a 2.9% increase compared with the same period in 2025, bringing visitor numbers to 96.3% of pre-pandemic levels in 2019. Although international travel continues to grow, the pace is slowing as the tourism industry enters a new stage of recovery.

Not all destinations are experiencing the same level of tourism growth. Vietnam and South Korea are among the strongest performers in the region. Vietnam recorded 12.3 million international visitors, an increase of 14.9% year-on-year, while South Korea welcomed 10.7 million visitors, up 21.4%. Both destinations have also exceeded their 2019 visitor numbers. Meanwhile, Thailand recorded 15.9 million international arrivals, down 4.9% compared with the same reporting period in 2025. These differences give travelers more options when choosing destinations for their next Asian holiday.

The recovery of Asia Pacific tourism means travelers can continue exploring popular cities, beaches, cultural attractions, and natural landscapes across the region. However, travel costs, visa requirements, flight connections, and changing travel policies may affect holiday plans. Travelers should check the latest visa rules before booking flights and accommodation, especially when visiting countries with specific entry requirements. Comparing destinations and travel dates can also help visitors find suitable options that match their budget and travel preferences.

As tourism demand changes, travelers can benefit from planning ahead while keeping their itineraries flexible. Booking flights and hotels early may be helpful during busy travel periods, while visiting popular destinations outside peak seasons can offer a different travel experience. Travelers may also consider exploring smaller cities and less crowded attractions instead of focusing only on major tourist areas. Before departure, it is important to check passport validity, visa processing times, travel insurance, and any updated entry requirements to avoid unexpected problems.

According to PATA's Annual Tourism Monitor 2026, the region is moving beyond the initial post-pandemic recovery phase and focusing on sustainable tourism growth. This means destinations are looking beyond visitor numbers and paying greater attention to local communities, businesses, and the overall travel experience. For travelers, this could create more opportunities to discover different destinations, enjoy local culture, and travel more responsibly. With tourism nearing pre-pandemic levels, Asia Pacific remains an attractive region for international holidays in 2026. Travelers who stay informed, compare their options, and prepare their documents early can make better decisions when planning their next trip.
